
A joint operation involving multiple police units culminated in the safe recovery of a 2-year-old child who had gone missing near I-94 in Jackson County. According to a news release sent to 6 News, the Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety, alongside the Michigan State Police K-9 unit and a helicopter, sprung into action following a report of the child's disappearance from a home on Pheasant Run Dr. in Blackman Twp.
The search started after a toddler, last seen watching TV at 8:43 p.m., was reported missing around 9:43 p.m. The child, wearing only a diaper, was thought to be lost. As night fell and temperatures dropped, the urgency to find the child grew, as it posed greater risks to their safety, according to a post from X MPS First District.

Breaking the tension, the pivotal moment came roughly three hours following the initial incident when a helicopter crew utilizing a heat-seeking camera spotted a heat signature in a ditch; the discovery was announced in a CBS Detroit article. The signature, identified as the young child, was found near the intersection of I-94 and Airport Road, quickly guiding ground units to the exact location for retrieval.
In a subsequent social media post by MSP First District, after Trooper 2 arrived on the scene, it took only 15 minutes for them to locate the child, and once found, the responders acted promptly to ensure the child was comforted and assessed for any potential harm fortunately, the toddler was conscious, alert and did not seem to be injured but was nonetheless transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure. "Without the collective efforts of all these agencies, this incident would have undoubtedly ended in tragedy," the Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety stated, a sentiment that underscores the critical role of interagency cooperation in emergency situations, as per 6 News. The community breathed a collective sigh of relief as the child was taken to Henry Ford Hospital by Jackson Community Ambulance for evaluation.
