A young man in his 20s was found fatally stabbed inside his apartment at Mosaic Apartment Homes in Mission Viejo, prompting a swift response by local law enforcement on Wednesday afternoon. According to CBS News, the Orange County Sheriff's Department received a report and dispatched deputies to the complex located in the 27000 block of Camden near Felipe Road.
Upon their arrival around 2:00 p.m., deputies discovered the victim suffering from a stomach wound. Attempts to save the man's life were made on the scene, however, he was declared dead by the paramedics who arrived shortly after. As the investigation quickly progressed, "Evidence led to a person of interest, who has been detained," as deputies informed the media, highlighting that there was "no obvious connection" between this individual and the slain man.
Further details of the case were shared by KTLA, noting that the scene attracted a heavy presence of deputies and detectives. Video footage captured from the complex showed the unfolding of the investigation, including engagements with potential witnesses, and the sight of a person, potentially the person of interest, seated in the back of a sheriff's patrol car.
ABC7 reports that while a person of interest is in custody, the Orange County Sheriff's Department has not yet released detailed information regarding the cause of the incident or the identity of the detainee.
