Flags across Franklin County, the Fire Fighters Memorial of Missouri in Kingdom City, and statewide firehouses are set to be draped at half-staff today in memory of a young firefighter who recently lost his life in the line of duty. Governor Mike Kehoe has issued an order in tribute to Beaufort-Leslie Fire Protection District Firefighter Chevy Gall, who tragically died on April 4 while responding to an emergency call.
The proclamation, made to honor Gall's dedication and service, will mark the solemn observance from sunrise to sunset today. Despite joining the fire service recently in November 2024 and being just 16 years old, Gall carried himself with the zeal and responsibility usually seen in far more experienced firefighters. As reported by the official press release from the Governor's office, "Chevy went through training and embraced the fire service with enthusiasm, seriousness, and dedication."
The tragic incident that took Gall’s life occurred while he was en route to the Beaufort-Leslie Fire Protection District’s main station to assist in a water rescue operation. During the commute, he was involved in a motor vehicle collision that led to fatal injuries. Governor Kehoe, alongside his wife Claudia, has expressed his condolences, praying for "Chevy’s loved ones, extended fire service family, and all who knew this young man who tragically lost his life in service to others."
