The City of Monroe has earned national accolades for its electric reliability in the past year, as noted by the American Public Power Association (APPA). The APPA represents over 2,000 community-owned, non-profit electric utilities and has lauded Monroe for its commitment to stable power distribution. Using its eReliability Tracker service, APPA monitors utilities' outage and restoration statistics, comparing them annually to nationwide data collected by the U.S. Energy Information Administration across various electric utility types.
"This recognition underscores the City of Monroe’s commitment to providing exceptional service to our residents and businesses. Reliable power is essential to our community’s growth and quality of life, and I commend our Energy Services team for their dedication to excellence," City Manager Mark Watson proudly stated, according to the City of Monroe's official announcement. Monroe's electric department serves 13,458 customers, boasting an average response time of just 25.9 minutes.
Monroe's status as a public power community is significant as it entails direct accountability to the population it services. The city's dedication to sustainability is reflected in their electric generation sources, with a mere 1.05 percent originating from fossil fuels, showcasing Monroe's environmental awareness and progressive energy policies.
Rob Miller, General Manager of Energy Services and Water Resources, added, "This award reaffirms our commitment to reliability and customer service. Our crews work tirelessly to maintain and improve our infrastructure, and this recognition reflects their hard work, and expertise." The city's electrical infrastructure is supported by a staff of 28 field employees, eight substations, and spans 328 miles of power lines.
