Tragedy struck on a bustling Las Vegas street when a motorcyclist lost their life in a multi-vehicle crash, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported. The incident, which took place last Sunday at around 2:23 p.m., involved a motorcycle colliding with two cars on Lamb Boulevard, just south of Washington Avenue. This unfortunate event has brought the year's traffic-related fatalities to 55 within the police department’s jurisdiction.
According to an official statement released by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the motorcyclist, who was later determined to be a 37-year-old male, had been riding a 2007 Yamaha YZF-R6 northbound in the southbound lanes. A 2012 Jeep Patriot, driven by 60-year-old Patricia Ardon Mejia, was making a left turn at the time when it was struck by the motorcycle. Following the initial collision, the motorcycle then slid into a 2012 Toyota Camry, operated by 18-year-old Alfredo Torres Rodrigues, which was slowing down.
The LVMPD's preliminary investigation revealed that all involved parties remained on scene and there were no signs of impairment. However, despite no impairment and drivers staying to cooperate with law enforcement, the motorcyclist's injuries were too severe to survive. Emergency medical responders at the scene confirmed that the individual was beyond help and pronounced deceased on the spot. The drivers of the Jeep Patriot and the Toyota Camry did not sustain any injuries.
This accident is yet another sobering reminder of the risks present on our roads. The LVMPD's Collision Investigation Section continues to examine the circumstances of the collision. The identity of the motorcyclist is withheld pending notification of next of kin.
