Mountain View is injecting some life and color into its downtown area with a creative street makeover set to begin on May 6. This is no ordinary beautification effort; the "Ribbons" decorative street treatment is designed to transform the 100, 200, and 300 blocks of Castro Street into a more visually appealing and pedestrian-friendly space. According to an announcement by the City of Mountain View, the installation is expected to wrap up within two weeks, provided the weather plays nice.
Working hours for this urban renewal are pinned down to the convenient window of 7:30 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday, ensuring that interruptions to daily life are as minimal as an ant at a picnic. Traffic disruptions will also be minimized, as only half a block of the main thoroughfare will be inaccessible anytime.
As for the backstory of this street-scene facelift, the chosen "Ribbons" design went through a thorough selection process. It was put forth in presentations to the Visual Arts Committee on January 17, 2024, and the Council Transportation Committee followed on January 30, 2024. Both bodies have approved and recommended the design with minor modifications, as evident in an official description of the project's selection process.
