Residents of Italy, Texas, experienced a sharp disruption on Tuesday when a burglary in progress escalated into a high-speed chase and subsequent manhunt. According to a social media post from the Ellis County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a burglary call around 9:30 a.m. and were quickly led on a pursuit, which spanned county lines into Dallas County after the suspect fled the scene.
The chase quickly expanded to include multiple agencies after the suspect, later identified as Anthony Lee Turner, started throwing stolen items from the window of a pink Ford Bronco. The pursuit only stopped when Turner abandoned his vehicle and attempted to evade arrest on foot. Law enforcement authorities established a secure perimeter and introduced K9 units to painstakingly search the area, aided by air support from Dallas Police Air 1.
Turner was eventually apprehended and faced multiple charges, including Burglary of Habitation and Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle. The Ellis County Sheriff's Office thanked several law enforcement agencies for their role in the successful capture, citing their coordination, resources, and professionalism.
