
The U.S. Attorney's Office in the Northern District of Ohio has brought charges against several individuals for various immigration-related offenses, according to announcements on a series of indictments stemming from separate cases that were recently unsealed. Among those charged is Ana Alvarez-Limonche, a 20-year-old Venezuelan national, indicted on charges of having fraudulent permanent resident and Social Security cards, an investigation led by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) revealed the alleged misuse of documentation.
CBP's diligence has also ensnared Gildardo Alvarez-Rodriguez, 59, from Mexico; he faces charges of illegal reentry after his last removal from the U.S. occurred on September 24, 2020, and yet he found his way back onto American soil, similarly, Jose Cruz-Aguilar, 41, also from Mexico, and Carlos Garcia-Garcia, 45, find themselves accused of the same charge, with their last deportations dating back to February 27, 2017, and February 19, 2005, respectively signaling a persistent issue with undocumented reentry.
In a case involving firearms, 34-year-old Franklin Calix-Romero of Honduras has been charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, after being found with a Ruger 9mm semiautomatic pistol and its ammunition, the result of a joint FBI/State/Local Task Force investigation. Meanwhile, Jhofran Andres Laya-Gutierrez, a 28-year-old Venezuelan national, faced a litany of charges, including assault against a federal officer and fraud related to visas and Social Security numbers, with CBP and the FBI Toledo Field office leading the probe into his activities.
New details from the U.S. Attorney's Office announcement also highlight the indictment of Jeyson Martinez, also known as Jayson Martinez-Juarez, a 32-year-old Honduran national, who is charged with illegal reentry after previously being deported on November 23, 2018, where CBP's investigations continue to play a pivotal role in identifying and charging individuals who have reentered the U.S. after removal highlighting the complexity and ongoing challenges faced at the borders.
