The DC Department of General Services recently marked the opening of Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW - Health, a new healthcare facility located East of the River on the historic St. Elizabeths East campus. The $434.4 million project aims to improve healthcare access for residents of Wards 7 and 8 in Washington, DC.
According to the DC Department of General Services' Facebook post, the hospital spans about 406,000 square feet and includes 136 beds, with the potential to expand to 184. It features a 54-bay emergency department with dedicated areas for adults and children, as well as maternal health services, including a well-baby nursery and a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Additional features include a 500-car parking garage and a helipad for emergency transport.
Cedar Hill also includes five operating rooms, with the ability to expand to seven, and an ambulatory pavilion. The facility offers various outpatient and specialty services, such as dialysis, infusion therapies, cardiac rehabilitation, and physical therapy.
Mayor Muriel Bowser stated, “Cedar Hill will change the trajectory of health care in our community. This is a first-class hospital staffed by some of the most prestigious health institutions in the world. Families will be able to get prenatal care and welcome new babies close to home, seniors and residents will have access to the specialists they need, and trauma patients will receive lifesaving care quickly,” according to the DC Department of General Services' Facebook post.
The project involved contributions from MCNBuild, Children’s National, Universal Health Services, GW Health, Certified Business Enterprises (CBEs), local small businesses, and DC Government agencies.
