School principal, Stephanie Smith, praised Gaines by saying, "Mr. Gaines is committed to students, gains really strong relationships with them, and students gravitate towards him." Aron Muse, the Employee of the Year, was also highlighted during the ceremony. Muse, the relative newcomer post-retirement from the district's Human Resources team, was commended for establishing a unique rapport with the students. "Students build a very special bond with [Mr. Muse] as one of the few male staff at the school," Stephanie Smith told Duval County Public Schools. This sort of bond is particularly noteworthy in a school serving children who may require more tailored communication and understanding.
