A police chase in Northeast Ohio resulted in an officer shooting and wounding a suspect, who reportedly opened fire on law enforcement during the pursuit. This sequence of events began with a Flock camera's detection of a stolen license plate on a Honda Pilot in Wooster, as Cleveland.com reported. The situation escalated when the suspect, after being cut short in an initial chase, discharged several rounds at an officer, who then returned fire.

Following the initial encounter, the police spotted the vehicle later, and another attempt was made to apprehend the suspect at Geyers Chapel Road, just south of Back Orrville Road. At this juncture, the officer, whom the suspect left his vehicle and fired upon, retaliated with gunfire, leading the suspect to re-enter the Honda and flee the scene. As the police gave chase, the suspect continued shooting, although officers did not return fire, as stated by WKYC.

The chase came to an end when a state trooper and a Dalton Police Department officer collided with the suspect's car, forcing it to a stop. Subsequently, the suspect, with life-threatening injuries from an apparent gunshot wound, was arrested and transported to Wooster Community Hospital before being airlifted to Akron General Hospital. "No officers were injured," as obtained by Cleveland19 News, during the incident, the Wooster Police Department declared.

Ohio's Bureau of Criminal Investigation has taken over the investigation of the shooting, which included response from their Crime Scene Unit and Special Investigations Unit. According to a spokesperson for Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, "No officers were injured," as obtained by Cleveland19 News. The suspect's identity has not been disclosed, as this remains a developing story.
