April in Ohio comes with a deeply serious charge: to work, to genuinely engage, in the prevention of child abuse and neglect. As National Child Abuse Prevention Month gets into full swing, the focus sharpens on the safety and well-being of the youngest and often most vulnerable citizens. The Ohio Department of Children and Youth (DCY), along with the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund (OCTF), is pushing the initiative — "Ensure They Shine" — to do more than pay lip service to the cause, as reported by the Ohio government's official website.
The OCTF doesn't choose to decorate the calendar with a symbolic month; rather, it diligently supports programs year-round that strengthen families and actively prevent potential harm to children. "We all have a role in preventing child abuse," Kara Wente, Director of the Department of Children and Youth, noted, underscoring the urgency of preemptive support and resources for families.
Noteworthy events punctuate April as calls to action, such as #WearBlueDay on April 4 and #OhioWearsBlueDay on April 9. Ohio's residents are encouraged to don blue apparel, demonstrating their commitment to the issue.
