
Residents in Oklahoma City are advised to prepare for a turbulent week of weather, featuring a mix of showers, thunderstorms, and varying temperatures, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Oklahoma City. As reported by the NWS, today brings a 20 percent chance of showers and possibly severe thunderstorms after 4pm despite the mostly overcast skies, with high temperatures near 76 degrees and gusts potentially reaching as high as 34 mph.
The situation tonight is expected to intensify, with the likelihood of thunderstorms increasing significantly after 1 am. The NWS cautions that some of these storms could also turn severe, carrying gusts up to 37 mph and rain amounts between a quarter and half an inch. The overcast evening will be coupled with a low around 60 degrees, and residents should be on alert as the chance of precipitation escalates to 70 percent.
Tomorrow’s outlook is marginally more optimistic, with partly sunny conditions and a high of about 74 degrees, but the night will bring back a 50 percent chance of showers after 1 am. The fluctuating conditions will see the winds change from southwest around 6 mph to becoming northeasterly after midnight as clouds gather, culminating in a lower temperatures near 52 degrees.
Thursday will continue this unsettled pattern, presenting a mixed bag of weather prospects. Beginning with showers and thunderstorms before 10 am, followed by possible showers between 10 am and 1 pm, the NWS places the chance of precipitation at 40 percent. While the storms may lighten, the mostly cloudy skies will persist, and the northeast wind will pick up speed at 8 to 13 mph, with the thermometer reaching up to near 67 degrees.
Looking further ahead, Friday to Saturday is virtually guaranteed to be wet, with a 90 percent chance of showers and possible thunderstorms on Friday and 80 percent chances continuing into the night. The weekend will offer no respite from the rain until Sunday, when the forecast finally promises more sun than cloud.
