An Orange County man facing felony charges of animal cruelty for the alleged killing and mutilation of multiple cats in Santa Ana has posted bail, as confirmed by authorities. Alejandro Oliveros Acosta, 45, was arrested at his residence, which is in the vicinity of the reported cat abuses. Following his release, community tensions have visibly escalated.
According to NBC Los Angeles, Acosta drew the cats in with food and then reportedly stepped on them as they came closer, leading to his categorization as a serial cat killer. After the accusations and his subsequent arrest, emotions ran high, and not only at a vigil organized for the slain animals, where some participants began to vandalize property and throw objects in a neighborhood.
In the wake of these events, the Santa Ana Police Department issued a public statement stressing the importance of a democratic judicial process and denounced the acts of vandalism. "We recognize the strong emotions this case has generated and ask the public to please allow the judicial process to take its course," the police said, imploring for decorum and respect for the law.
