Oregon's agricultural leadership got a new face with Governor Tina Kotek's recent appointment of Michael Dill, Director of Advocacy and Sustainability at Organically Grown Company, to the Oregon State Board of Agriculture. Effective immediately, Dill steps into his role on the Board, where he is set to serve a four-year term with the option for reappointment. His significant experience in the industry, especially in organic and regenerative agriculture, is expected to enrich the board's depth of knowledge and strategic direction.
With over 15 years of experience, Dill's appointment represents a strategic move by Governor Kotek, expanding the Board's expertise in a sector where Oregon holds a considerable stake. "I am honored to represent the organic fruit and vegetable industry on the Oregon State Board of Agriculture," Dill said in a statement detailed by the Oregon Department of Agriculture. Additionally, with a Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology and Minors in Horticulture and Chemistry from Oregon State University, Dill's education complements his vast professional experience.
The Oregon State Board of Agriculture plays a critical advisory role, engaging with the Oregon Department of Agriculture on policy matters and advocating for the state's agricultural community. As a 10-member board established by Oregon Revised Statute 561.372, it shapes policies that influence Oregon's vast and varied agricultural landscape.
Dill's influence extends beyond the local scene, indicated by his appointments to national bodies such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee (FVIAC). "Fruits and vegetables make up the largest sector of the organic industry and I’m excited to share my knowledge and experience that spans the entire supply chain with the board and the Oregon Department of Agriculture,” Dill also told the Oregon Department of Agriculture. Dill's commitment is further evident from his leadership roles across the organic industry, where he contributes as Chair of the Oregon Organic Coalition and Vice-Chair of the Organic Trade Association’s Produce Sector Council, among others.
