A Petaluma man is behind bars after an alarming confrontation with a door-to-door salesperson last week. According to the Petaluma Police Department, 67-year-old Michael Greenwood was arrested last Monday for brandishing a firearm and making criminal threats.
The incident unfolded on the 900 block of Daniel Drive when a homeowners' dispute with a sales representative escalated dangerously. Officers responded to the scene at around 6:21 PM after receiving reports that the homeowner had a gun and was aggressively chasing the salesperson. When police arrived at the scene, they were able to defuse the situation and speak to both parties involved. Greenwood, the homeowner, was found to have pulled out a handgun, exited his house, and proceeded to threaten the salesperson actively. According to a report by the Petaluma Police Department, he was "brandishing the weapon and yelling threats towards the victim."
Despite Greenwood's refusal to allow officers to retrieve the firearm, the situation resulted in the execution of a twenty-one-day Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO), a measure enacted to prevent potential dangers posed by individuals at risk of committing violence. Under the GVRO, Greenwood was compelled to surrender the firearm in question. He was then booked at the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility and faces charges for violating Penal Code 422 (criminal threats) and 417 PC (brandishing a firearm).
