The City of Phoenix is joining forces with Phoenix ToolBank, a local nonprofit, aiming to broaden the scope of its tool lending program – a move set to reinforce community-led initiatives aimed at neighborhood improvement and beautification. The partnership stands to bolster tool access and support various community events and volunteer-driven activities.
Residents and neighborhood groups in Phoenix are poised to benefit from an expanded tool lending library, with access provided at the City's Neighborhood Services Department (NSD) graffiti warehouse near 35th Avenue and Thomas Road, and the Phoenix ToolBank site on 36th Street and Broadway Road. Offering 16 types of essential tools for free, the service is now complemented by an additional 500 tool varieties available at "very reasonable rates" for neighborhood groups, as featured in the NSD warehouse, according to a statement obtained by the City of Phoenix's news release.
Spencer Self, NSD Director, expressed the city's commitment to community empowerment. "We’re always looking for ways to empower residents and neighborhood groups," Self told the City of Phoenix's newsroom. "Partnering with Phoenix ToolBank strengthens our tool lending program and allows more communities to take on beautification and cleanup projects that make our neighborhoods better."
The collaborative effort of the City with Phoenix ToolBank, an affiliate of the national ToolBank USA network, enables an increased availability of tools and equipment for nonprofit organizations, schools, and local groups. Over time, the Phoenix ToolBank is reported to have helped local volunteers save over $7.5 million in tool costs, supporting more than 130,000 volunteers in their efforts, according to the news release from the City of Phoenix.
Jana Ferraro, Executive Director of Phoenix ToolBank, shared her enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "We’re thrilled to partner with the City of Phoenix to ensure all neighborhood groups are aware of our resource and have access to tools and equipment to enhance their events and projects." Ferraro also mentioned to the City of Phoenix's newsroom, "This partnership helps remove barriers for residents who want to roll up their sleeves and make a difference in their local communities."
In the past year, the Phoenix ToolBank has welcomed 147 new members, including many neighborhood associations that are part of the city's revitalization initiatives. This newly forged partnership marks a continuous effort to provide resources and foster a spirit of community-driven transformation throughout Phoenix.
