The Pigeon Forge Police Department has issued a caution for potential traffic congestion due to the Spring Rod Run, scheduled to occur April 10 through April 12 at the LeConte Center. Known for attracting a substantial number of classic car enthusiasts, the event is set to fill the roads, sidewalks, and parking areas, as stated by a social media post from the Pigeon Forge Police Department. The department urges residents and visitors to be patient and watchful during this busy time, as traffic is not only expected around the LeConte Center but will also spill over onto primary, secondary, and tertiary roads.
With visitors converging from across the country, the Pigeon Forge Police Department is bracing for the large crowds. Chief of Police Richard Catlett, in an interview with 6 News, mentioned that in expectation of the huge crowd, officers will be working 12-hour shifts. Offering additional support, deputies from the Blount County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol will assist. Alerting those unfamiliar with local detours, the Chief of Police noted that due to ongoing construction, the Old Mill Bridge would not be accessible for reaching the Parkway from Teaster Lane.
The department has shared valuable tips for navigating the expected congestion, suggesting drivers not to hurry, to remain vigilant for pedestrians, and, if driving slower, to stick to the right-hand side of the road. Importantly, drivers are advised against attempting to merge into the right lane near intersections to avoid causing further delays. On parking discipline, the Pigeon Forge Police Department's notice highlighted by WVLT recommends that vehicles be parked in lined spaces to prevent obstructing traffic flow.
In the wake of a previous fatal crash close to the Spring Rod Run, safety precautions are being particularly emphasized. The past incident had a man on a scooter losing his life after a vehicle door was opened at a red light. This year, both drivers and pedestrians are being reminded to maintain heightened awareness of each other, as conveyed by the Pigeon Forge Police Department. Concurrently, vendors and private sellers have been reminded of a city ordinance, as per a report by WATE, prohibiting car sales advertisements on state roads within city limits, violations of which could result in towing if vehicle ownership cannot be promptly determined.
The Spring Rod Run is one of two major annual car show events in Pigeon Forge, with the Fall Rod Run already set for September 11-13, 2025. These events are significant not only for auto enthusiasts but also for the local economy, which sees a boom from the influx of visitors filling up hotels and engaging with local businesses.
