In an effort to actively combat the harrowing surge in fentanyl-related fatalities, the Placer County District Attorney’s Office is leveraging National Fentanyl Awareness Day to illuminate the perils of this potent opioid. On April 29, the Placer County DA's Office turned to social media to announce their ongoing initiatives, which include educational assemblies for students and informational sessions for parents, aimed at fostering a well-informed community.
According to their Facebook post, the Placer County District Attorney's Office has conducted an impressive number of assemblies—91, reaching out to more than 40,000 students, along with 27 nights dedicated to informing parents. Their campaign, emblematically titled "One Pill Can Kill," seeks to conversely imbue life into their educational outreach by shedding light on the deadly risks associated with fentanyl and counterfeit prescriptions. "A day to unite us all to take action to protect our community from deadly fentanyl and fake prescription pills," the social media announcement read, marking April 29 as a day of collective vigilance.
The initiative is slated to continue beyond the confines of a mere day of awareness. At 5:30 pm on May 8, the final parent information night for the school year will be hosted at WPUSD - Lincoln High School. The DA's Office encourages community members to participate in this event to further understand the gravity of the fentanyl crisis. Information about the event is available on the District Attorney's Facebook page.
