The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) successfully executed its strategy for ensuring a peaceful march through the city, with the event transpiring without any significant hiccups, authorities reported. The demonstration, which saw participants congregating at Tom McCall Waterfront Park before marching through the streets of Old Town, was previously coordinated with the aid of PPB's Dialogue Officers, as per a news release by the Portland Police Bureau. These officers, who are trained specifically to liaise with protest organizers, worked in conjunction with those planning the protest to establish a route and manage the crowd safely.

At a press briefing held on Friday, PPB highlighted their collaboration with Clifford Stott, a professor of Social Psychology at Keele University, who provided training on crowd behavior and public order. Stott observed the demonstration, underscoring the bureau's commitment to effective public safety strategies. March of size significant began at the Japanese American Historical Plaza, prompting officers to shut down Northwest Naito Parkway to accommodate the gathering crowd, which caused some traffic disruptions, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

The defined march route led participants from Naito Parkway, across the Morrison Bridge, and then along Southeast Grand Avenue towards the Burnside Bridge, culminating back at the park. While the event prompted traffic diversions, PPB officers managed to facilitate detours, minimizing inconvenience to motorists. During the event, updates were provided on PPB’s events account on X (formerly Twitter). Despite the day's heat and a minor tripping incident, no attendees sustained serious injuries, reassured the PPB.

Unfortunately, an act of vandalism did occur during the march, when Amber D. Reid, 47, was apprehended after allegedly scratching a Portland Fire & Rescue brush unit with a piece of metal believed to be a key. The incident occurred at 2:18 p.m., and following the vehemence of a firefighter, Reid was arrested on a felony charge of Criminal Mischief in the First Degree along with an outstanding warrant. The damage was done to the left rear utility door panel of the vehicle, as detailed in images provided by the PPB. She was subsequently booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center, the press release stated.
