It is now under investigation by local authorities in Punta Gorda, Florida. The incident, which took place under the Barron Collier Bridge on Tuesday, became heated when one of the boaters, identified as a charter captain, boarded the other individual's vessel during an argument over lights. This action prompted a string of reactions online, and according to a WESH report, the Punta Gorda Police and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are currently investigating what they call a case of "river rage."
The video, which contains explicit language, has been shared extensively. The Facebook post detailing the argument has been viewed over 11 million times, and the accompanying video on YouTube has drawn in over 37,000 viewers in a short period, showcasing the rapid spread of the confrontation through social networks. Amidst the public furor, the Punta Gorda Police Department urges the public not to inundate their dispatch with calls regarding the incident.
The aftermath of this encounter has had serious repercussions for the individuals involved. According to WESH, the Fisherman's Village in Punta Gorda has severed ties with the charter captain involved. Additionally, the consequences have extended beyond professional ramifications, as the captain's attorney, Scott Weinberg, in a statement obtained by Gulf Coast News, expressed the repercussions faced by his client. "Since the video went viral, Brock’s business has been destroyed, his reputation damaged, and his family — including his wife and mother—have been harassed and even threatened," said Weinberg. He also mentioned Brock Horner's military background as a decorated combat veteran and the impact of his service on his current situation.
Furthermore, North Port Fire Rescue has issued a statement indicating that one of their firefighters might have been a passenger on the vessel and is now subject to an internal inquiry.
