In a recent turn of events, a Queens motorist has been indicted on murder charges after a road rage encounter turned fatal. The Queens District Attorney's office announced that Malcolm Anglin faces charges including second-degree murder, as previously reported by the Queens District Attorney. The incident, which began on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn, escalated to a deadly attack in a Breezy Point parking lot last May.
Thomas McDade, the victim, was a 55-year-old Breezy Point resident who passed away in November due to blunt force trauma to the head sustained during the collision. The charges Anglin now faces were elevated following McDade's death; he was previously charged with attempted murder and related crimes. District Attorney Melinda Katz emphasized the commitment to seeking justice for McDade and his family, stating that the defendant resorted to violence to resolve a senseless conflict with a stranger.
Anglin, now 32 and a resident of Brooklyn, was arraigned before Supreme Court Justice Ushir Pandit-Durant, with bail set at stringent conditions — $5 million cash, $10 million bond, or $20 million partially secured bond. If convicted of the top charge, Anglin could face 25 years to life in prison. The indictment details how the fatal encounter unfolded on May 13, 2024, when Anglin, driving a gray Honda CRV, and McDade, in a green Subaru SUV, became embroiled in a heated argument. Anglin allegedly followed McDade across the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge to Breezy Point, where the fatal assault occurred, according to the official statement from her office.
Court records from the indictment reveal that McDade was struck after exiting his vehicle in a parking lot. Anglin first reversed his Honda CRV, then accelerated into McDade, causing him to fly into the air and land severely injured. Anglin reportedly fled the scene but was later detained by law enforcement at his home, where his vehicle was found with noticeable damage consistent with the incident. Subsequent to his June arrest, Anglin surrendered to the 100th Precinct on June 19, 2024.
Assistant District Attorneys Kanella Georgopoulos, Abigail Neuviller, and Jennifer Leung are prosecuting the case under the supervision of higher-ranking officials within the Queens District Attorney's office, as detailed by the Queens District Attorney's announcement.
