A devastating incident unfolded in Rock Hill where a fire claimed the lives of a father and his daughter. The victims have been identified as 63-year-old Sammylee Roseborough and 9-year-old Simaya Roseborough, whose bodies were discovered after a blaze enveloped their home located on Deas Street. WBTV first reported that the local fire department responded to the scene early Friday, around 7:30 in the morning.
Upon arrival, crews found that the fire had self-extinguished, presumably due to lack of oxygen. In a release reported by WCNC, the Rock Hill Fire Department's deputy chief, Trey Hovis, stated that while the cause of the fire remains under investigation, foul play is not suspected. Contradicting details, however, emerged regarding the age of Mr. Roseborough, as he was alternatively reported to be 43 years old in the WCNC article.
The investigation into the cause of the fire and the precise causes of death is ongoing. Both the Rock Hill Police, the local fire department, and SLED are collaboratively looking into the matter. According to reports from WCCB Charlotte, officials confirmed that smoke detectors inside the home were operational at the time of the fire.
