The City of Roseville Police Department is cordially inviting locals to delve into law enforcement life through its Citizens Academy program. The upcoming sessions, set to run on May 19-22 and May 26-29 from 6-9 p.m., are an opportunity to experience a day in the life of RPD personnel. According to the City of Roseville Police Department's social media post, participants will witness a live K-9 demonstration, handle SWAT and patrol gear, and hear from department experts about what drives the RPD to support their community.
Enrollment is open to Roseville residents or those who work in the city, with a minimum age requirement of 18 years. Chosen by the Chief of Police or a designated official, the Academy will host approximately 20 students, illuminated in an announcement on the Police Department's website. A curious blend of behind-the-scenes access, the Academy invites engaged citizens to become entwined with the fabric of the Roseville Police, asking prospective students to commit to attending all eight sessions for graduation eligibility.
The curriculum pitched by the RPD steers attendees through a labyrinth of law enforcement functions, from K-9 and Investigations Units to Traffic and CSI. Venturing into the bones of the Department, enrolled members will also engage with Animal Control, Community Service Officers, and the high-tech UAS (drone) team. Participants awaiting the siren call of community integration will find themselves immersed in the symbiosis of multiple divisions, all coming together to keep Roseville's streets safe.
Attendees looking to accelerate their police knowledge will be treated to an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC), offering a literal ride-along through the daily rigors facing Roseville's finest, highlighted by the Department's website. The course aims to illuminate the camaraderie amongst officers, their synergistic relationship with the city they patrol, and the multi-faceted layers of public service shaping Roseville's community-oriented policing approach. Desiring to bridge the gap between badge and citizen, the RPD’s immersive program hinges on transparency and education.
With a departmental "open house" vibe, the Citizens Academy steps beyond mere presentations. Graduation is earmarked for those attending all sessions, with the prelude to registration closing on May 5. The RPD, in understanding life's unpredictable sway, affirms its commitment to those with wavering schedules, ensuring opportunities abound for all interested parties through different formats of community engagement and programmatic offerings.
