A person was found dead inside a burning home on the 7700 block of Chisamore Ranch Lane in the rural English Hills area north of Vacaville Saturday afternoon, after flames spread from the structure into a garage and surrounding vegetation, triggering mandatory evacuations across the neighborhood.
According to the Vacaville Fire Protection District, Solano County 911 dispatchers received multiple reports of a home on fire around 2:45 p.m. Saturday, and firefighters arriving on scene located an occupant deceased inside the structure while crews worked to extinguish the blaze. California Highway Patrol dispatch logs compiled by Magnifeye show initial emergency reports came in even earlier, at 3:13 p.m., describing multiple structures on fire near Chisamore Ranch Lane and Timm Road, though responders ultimately contained the blaze to one home, an exterior garage, and nearby vegetation.
Fire officials requested a greater alarm response as the fire threatened to spread, and the district's report notes additional crews were needed to attack the spreading vegetation fire, which ultimately burned approximately 0.49 acres. Per SFGATE, dispatchers upgraded the incident to a 4th-alarm response given the remote rural location, limited localized water supply, and high potential for wildland fire spread. That response pulled in more than a dozen agencies, including the City of Vacaville Fire Department, Montezuma Fire Protection District, City of Suisun City Fire Department, Suisun Fire Protection District, West Plainfield Fire Protection District, City of Dixon Fire Department, UC Davis Fire, California Correctional Center/CMF Fire, CAL FIRE, Winters Fire Department, Napa City Fire, Fairfield Fire, and the Solano County Sheriff's Office.
Evacuations Ordered as Flames Threatened to Spread
The Solano County Sheriff's Office assisted with evacuation orders for the surrounding area as the vegetation fire grew. Solano Community Awareness relayed the Sheriff's emergency notification on Facebook, showing a mandatory evacuation order was issued at 5:58 p.m. for Genasys zone SOL-2794, covering the area from Chisamore Ranch Lane to Timm Road and from Lakeview Drive to Skippers Lane. Authorities lifted the evacuation orders once the vegetation fire was contained, according to the Vacaville Fire Protection District's report.
The Solano County Investigation Unit responded to the fire, and ABC10 reports the Solano County Fire Investigation Unit was dispatched specifically to determine the origin of the fire and the cause of death for the deceased occupant. That specialized team combines law enforcement officers and certified fire investigators for fatal or complex fire scenes, as detailed by ABC10. Fire crews said they would remain on scene for several hours to complete overhaul, extinguish remaining hot spots, and assist investigators in determining the cause of the fire, and the public was asked to avoid the area and allow emergency crews to complete their work.
A Rural Corridor With Limited Water and Narrow Access
Homes along Chisamore Ranch Lane sit on five-acre parcels accessed off Timm Road, according to property records updated in August on Realtor.com, a layout typical of the low-density rural partitioning found throughout English Hills. The area is served by the Rural North Vacaville Water District, which provides public water and fire hydrants to up to 711 parcels across English Hills, Steiger Hills, and Gibson Canyon to supplement private wells where municipal infrastructure is limited.
The primary responding agency, the Vacaville Fire Protection District, is an independent special district established in 1981 covering 135 square miles of unincorporated Solano County from four stations, separate from the City of Vacaville Fire Department, according to Solano County Local Agency Formation Commission records. That independent structure means major fires in areas like English Hills routinely trigger multi-agency mutual aid across county lines due to limited localized water supply and the distances involved.
A Region Still Marked by Past Wildfires
English Hills carries deep scars from past wildfire seasons. The community was heavily impacted in August 2020 by the Hennessey Fire, part of the 363,220-acre LNU Lightning Complex, which destroyed hundreds of homes across rural Solano County and caused one civilian fatality in Vacaville, as reported by CapRadio. More recently, CAL FIRE crews contained the 49-acre Linda Fire in English Hills in June 2025 after it threatened nearby structures and prompted evacuation warnings before ground and air resources stopped its advance.
