A late-Sunday drive on a rural stretch west of Vacaville ended in tragedy when a solo vehicle slammed into a tree on Pleasants Valley Road and burst into flames, killing both people inside, authorities said. First responders arrived to find the car fully engulfed and the two occupants already dead at the scene. The crash was so violent that the engine was pushed into the passenger compartment, complicating any chance of rescue. Officials have not released the victims' names as identification work continues.
According to the California Highway Patrol's Solano office, the wreck happened late Sunday on Pleasants Valley Road, and investigators are still working to verify both the vehicle and the occupants' identities. The car appeared to be a Ford Mustang as officers processed the burned-out shell and collected evidence, CBS Sacramento reported.

Local crews were dispatched to the 6200 block of Pleasants Valley Road, where firefighters arrived to find the vehicle already on fire. They worked to knock down the flames before investigators could safely move in to document the wreckage. The car was believed to have been traveling at a high rate of speed before it struck the tree, and emergency crews shut down the road in both directions while they worked the scene, KCRA reported. Officials did not immediately say whether impairment might have been a factor.

Pleasants Valley Road was closed for about an hour and a half while firefighters fully extinguished the blaze and investigators mapped and photographed the site, according to CBS Sacramento. The CHP's Solano office is leading the investigation and has asked anyone who may have seen the crash or the vehicle beforehand to contact their local CHP dispatch.
