As Sacramento braces for a mix of spring weather patterns, the National Weather Service (NWS) Sacramento has rolled out predictions of what residents can expect in the coming days. In an update published early Tuesday, Sacramento is slated for marginally cooler temperatures, yet still above the norm for this time of year, trending towards more typical spring conditions as the weekend approaches. For additional details, you can check out the NWS forecast.
For the heat enthusiasts, today brings an "Above-normal temperatures and Minor HeatRisk Today for the Sacramento Valley," reports the forecast, and the probabilities run high, particularly in the Northern and Central valleys. However, the Delta and surrounding areas have a cooler prediction, clocking in a 10 to 40 percent chance of reaching 80 degrees Fahrenheit or more. Yet, the forecast flags isolated thunderstorms for the mountain regions, with a "10-20% chance of isolated mountain thunderstorms this afternoon, mainly over the Sierra," according to NWS Sacramento.
A transition to seasonable weather will arrive mid-week, with an eye on precipitation developments. The forecast indicates a "Slightly lower potential for PM showers/thunderstorms, with chances mainly focused over Sierra and southern Cascades and adjacent upper foothills." While folks elsewhere in the region can look forward to a dry spell extended through early next week, those planning mountain or foothill excursions should keep an eye on the sky, as per the NWS forecast.
For the wind-wise, Friday could be the day to hold onto your hats, especially west of Interstate 5 where NWS Sacramento has upped its predictions: "Probability of northerly Wind Gusts > 30 mph: Friday: 40-80%, highest along and west of the Interstate 5 corridor." And those further into the far western Sacramento Valley might witness even more bluster, with wind gusts potentially surpassing 40 mph. As for aviation interests, the VFR conditions should remain intact for TAF sites, but "winds generally light and less than 12 kts," except near the Delta, where westerly gusts could kick up to 25 kts through Wednesday morning.
