In a recent release by the San Antonio Police Department, video footage of an officer-involved shooting that took place on March 16, has been made publicly available. The incident, which resulted in the death of 43-year-old suspect Miguel Morin, occurred in the 200 block of Birchwood Dr., following a traffic stop initiated by SAPD Officer Orlando Jimenez, who has four years of service with the department. According to the official video release provided by SAPD, the sequence of events unfolded around 7:00 p.m when Morin fled from a gas station after being pulled over on Loop 410 EB, as reported by the City of San Antonio.
The released video details how Morin, after abandoning his vehicle, ran from Officer Jimenez, dropping a black backpack in the process. The pursuit led to a residence on Birchwood Dr., where Jimenez reportedly observed a knife on Morin's person. An attempt to subdue Morin using a taser was unsuccessful. After the suspect managed to pick up the taser that Officer Jimenez dropped, the officer, in turn, fired several rounds, fatally striking Morin.
The SAPD's official statement confirmed that the backpack found at the scene contained a handgun and narcotics. No injuries to officers or bystanders were reported during the incident. The District Attorney's Office is reviewing the case as part of the standard procedure. Both narrated and non-narrated versions of the critical incident video are available through the SAPD's news release portal.
Officer Orlando Jimenez, involved in the incident, is following standard protocol for officers involved in a shooting. The District Attorney’s Office is conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding Morin’s death and to guide further actions in the case.
