The video depicts the fatal shooting of a 59-year-old white male suspect, whose name has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
According to a report from the San Diego Police, officers responded to a report on the afternoon of March 25 of a man threatening construction workers at the aforementioned address. The situation escalated when the man targeted a pest control worker, who, in fear for his safety, locked himself in the rear of his service vehicle. SWAT and Emergency Negotiations Officers were requested due to the severity of the incident and the worker's immobilization.
Upon arrival, police officers faced a suspect brandishing a semi-automatic pistol. Despite commands to disarm, the individual failed to comply. To ensure no other neighbors were at risk, officers contained the scene. While attempting to evacuate the pest worker, SWAT snipers fired at the suspect as he pointed his firearm at them, resulting in his subsequent death. Both officers involved, Brandon Jordan and Chris Lingenhol, from various divisions of the Force, were unharmed in the encounter.
An administrative and legal investigation into the incident, led by the San Diego County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit, is currently underway, following the Countywide Memorandum of Understanding protocol. As mentioned in a release from San Diego County Sheriff's Office, the District Attorney’s Office will review the case to ascertain whether the officers incurred any criminal liability. People with information are encouraged to contact the Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
