Scottsdale's Comanche Park tennis courts have been rebuilt following storm damage from a microburst. The city chose to upgrade the repairs by installing post-tension concrete for improved durability. The new playing surface is expected to last over 25 years and reduce cracking, according to the City of Scottsdale.
The upgrade includes new LED lighting, higher-grade fencing, windscreens, park signage, and backstop repairs. The funding came from insurance claim funds, the city’s budget for court repairs, and park amenity capital improvement dollars. "The storm damage was devastating, but it gave us an opportunity to rebuild the courts better than before," said Nick Molinari, senior director, as reported by the City of Scottsdale.
The City of Scottsdale manages 51 tennis courts, with a project upgrading 20 neighborhood park courts, including six converted to post-tension concrete. The city also offers tennis lessons, leagues, and drop-in play at centers like Indian School and Scottsdale Ranch Park.
