Seattle Police Department's recent operation in the Chinatown-International District has culminated in 11 arrests, with a notable seizure of narcotics and related paraphernalia. The operation, which took place on April 3 near 12th Avenue South and South Jackson Street, enlisted the Downtown Activation Team and officers from various units in a bid to enhance neighborhood safety.

According to the SPD Blotter, one of the incidents involved a 57-year-old woman whose loud Michael Jackson music caught the attention of bike-patrol officers. Parked in a known hot spot for drug activity, the woman initially claimed she was awaiting a friend. The scene took a turn when the officers uncovered not only a bottle of tequila but also a glass pipe and foil with suspicious contents within her vehicle.

"What the pipe is for? You know what the pipe is for," the woman retorted when questioned about the drug paraphernalia, the SPD Blotter reports. She was subjected to field sobriety tests before being arrested for Physical Control While Intoxicated – DUI-Drugs, yet claimed the foil-wrapped substance was merely a ground find. Despite her statements, officers had enough evidence to take her into custody, though she was later released from the precinct.

In another incident, a 32-year-old man was arrested by the Downtown Activation Team after officers observed him consuming narcotics near a high school. The man, seen inhaling vapors from heated foil, was surrounded by a group at the time of his engagement in illegal activity. His initial claim of ignorance of the substance smoked quickly dissipated when officers discovered an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He, too, was released after a period of custody.

The operation extended beyond singular arrests, with various departments such as the Community Response Group, Traffic Unit, Parking Enforcement, Alternative Response Team, and Community Service Officers participating.
