Members of the Shelby County Sheriff's Office recently took part in the "Answering the Call" Public Safety Conference, a gathering designed for professionals across the public safety spectrum, including corrections, dispatchers, firefighters, emergency medical services, military, and law enforcement. The event, which unfolded on Friday at Hope Church, was presented by The Oaks of Lakeside Behavioral Health System.
Keynoting the conference was SCSO Chief Deputy Anthony Buckner, who shared insights on courage under fire, striking a chord with an audience familiar with facing adversity as part of their day-to-day responsibilities. According to a social media post from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, a variety of their personnel, from communications professionals to detectives and employee counselors, attended the conference to engage and learn.
Corrections Deputy Maurice Fuller, serving as the CIT (Crisis Intervention Training) coordinator for the Sheriff's Office as well as an instructor at the SCSO Training Academy, not only hosted the event but also brought his expertise to the forefront. The stage was also shared by Charles Winton, Jr., the program director for The Oaks of Lakeside, who addressed the crucial concept of resilience for those enduring the pressure cooker of public safety fields.
