The National Weather Service Cleveland has issued projections that include a mix of light showers and brisk northwest winds, which led to rough marine conditions across Lake Erie, particularly notable in the central and eastern basins. According to NWS Cleveland, "Northwest winds will be breezy today with gusts to around 25 knots." This has triggered a series of Small Craft Advisories effective for Saturday along Lake Erie, alerting boaters of the choppy conditions and urging caution.
The cooling trend brought on by the recent cold front is substantial, dropping temperatures precipitously enough to introduce frost to parts of Ohio. "With the cool airmass in place, some areas of frost area possible where temperatures reach the mid-30s and winds drop off enough", the NWS Cleveland report detailed. Particularly, regions stretching from southern Lorain County to Wayne, Holmes, and Stark Counties could see this drop. On the aviation front, there are reports of patchy fog and visibility issues particularly affecting the northeastern regions of Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania, with cloud bases hovering at 200-400 feet.
As the week progresses, the weather service anticipates a potential for strong to severe storms on Tuesday evening, ahead of an approaching cold front. "The current environmental space suggests that all hazards would be possible if storms were to form, including large hail, damaging wind gusts, a few tornadoes, and heavy rain," according to the forecast discussion. Coastal areas and mariners should thus stay informed on the latest updates regarding these conditions.
High pressure will make a brief appearance bringing some tranquility to the region before the midweek system ushers in another wave of disturbances. The high pressure will bring with it, reduced wind speeds and clearer skies for a short span. Toward the latter part of the week, showers and possible thunderstorms are expected, "[...] Modest mid-level southwest flow of 40 knots would be favorable for some storm organization on Thursday," the NWS Cleveland explains. This combined with a mobile front could lead to an extended period of rainy conditions to end the week, along with a secondary cold front Friday night.
