Snellville Police Department's own Lt. Andre Sullivan has been splashed across the news, not for typical police work, but for an act of kindness that caught the community's attention. Spotted assisting a family with a stalled car, Sullivan learned that they were in dire straits - not only out of gas on Scenic Highway but also living in transitional housing. He didn't just offer a helping hand; he offered his heart and wallet, filling up their gas can and adding a $40 gas gift card to their pockets for good measure.
The lieutenant's gesture extended beyond fuel; he provided meals to ensure the family faced one less hardship. Such actions prompted the Snellville Police Department to issue him a commendation. "Snellville Police Department’s line of work is often a thankless job, and we wants to make the community aware of local heroes and all they do to make Gwinnett County a better and safer place," reflected Piedmont Eastside CEO Larry Ebert, according to the department's news release.
The hype reached Piedmont Eastside Medical Center where accolades found another medium. Recognizing Sullivan's actions, the center honored him as a 'First Friday Hero', complete with a poster and a glass plaque award. With routines engraved in service and rescue, officers like Sullivan remind Gwinnett residents of the humanity that underscores the badge, as per the City of Snellville.
The 'First Friday Hero' program, championed by Piedmont Eastside, calls on the community for nominations of first responders going the extra mile. It's not just about the daily grind, but about those moments when these brave men and woman stretch the very fabric of duty, rewriting job descriptions with threads of compassion and selflessness. For Lt. Sullivan, it was simply another day's work; for the family he aided, it was something bordering the lines of a miracle.
