St. Charles Parish is stepping up its game with the introduction of Girls Flag Football, a new avenue for youth sports set to commence this summer. As the lush Louisiana summer approaches, the St. Charles Parish Department of Parks and Recreation will roll out this inaugural season, in line with the growing national movement to provide inclusive sports opportunities. Registration kicks off on May 1 and will run through May 25, available on the St. Charles Parish website.
Parks and Recreation Director Duane Foret conveyed the excitement surrounding the new program, "The introduction of Girls Flag Football marks a significant advancement in our youth sports programming." This sentiment, Foret shared, heralds a time when girls are emboldened to excel in team sports, "It opens the door for girls to grow, lead, and thrive in a supportive and empowering environment," as reported by the St. Charles Parish website.
Residents in the Parish must register through their designated booster clubs, which span several communities, from Destrehan to Norco. There's a sense of urgency for prospective participants, as late registrations, from May 26 to 31, will come with an additional fee. The importance of registering with the correct booster club can not be overstated; a misstep there can delay season kick-off and snarl uniform orders.
The program comes with a straightforward refund policy. If a player's uniform has not been ordered, a full refund is possible. However, once the order is placed, that window closes. In the case where insufficient teams are formed to launch a league, registered girls will receive their money back either via their booster club, or directly from the Department of Parks and Recreation. Ahead of this landmark summer, those interested should mark their calendars for registration details and requirements listed on the official parish website.
