In the heart of St. Charles Parish, an event unfolded dedicated to the safe and secure disposal of unwanted medications. The annual Drug Take Back Day was hosted by the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office, as announced on their official Facebook page. The community initiative, which took place at the Law Enforcement Complex, saw residents turning in a significant quantity of pharmaceuticals no longer in use.
According to the Facebook post by the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office, "We want to extend our gratitude to everyone who contributed to this event! We had an excellent turnout, collecting five boxes of unwanted or expired medications, totaling 88 pounds." This year’s collection underscores a commitment to prevent the potential abuse of prescription drugs and to ensure they do not harm the environment. The collected drugs were slated to be securely transported to DEA-authorized facilities to be properly disposed.
The St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office offers a permanent drop box in the lobby of their office for safely disposing of unwanted medications. Located at 260 Judge Edward Dufresne Parkway in Luling, the box is available during standard business hours year-round, providing a convenient alternative to special events. The Sheriff's Office encourages residents to use the service and concluded their announcement with, "If you need to dispose of unwanted or expired medications throughout the year, there is a drop box available in the lobby of the sheriff's office," aiming to reduce the risks associated with improperly discarded medications.
