St. Charles Parish's dedication to tidiness was on full display this past April 12, when 782 community volunteers came together for the 17th annual Trash Bash. The local tradition, which coincides with Love the Boot Week, saw a substantial haul with volunteers collecting 447 bags of trash and over 20 bags of recyclables, according to St. Charles Parish government's announcement. Local schools, industry partners, clubs, and organizations lent their hands to beautify the area, displaying an impressive community spirit.
The cleanup event amassed more than 920 volunteer hours, with participants rallying at the West Bank Bridge Park to acknowledge their collective effort. In a statement obtained by St. Charles Parish government, Susan Russell, Executive Director of Keep Louisiana Beautiful, expressed gratitude: “We are thankful to the Louisiana businesses, governments, schools, families, and individuals who participated in Love the Boot Week.” Russell stressed the importance of collaborative work and behavioral change for improving Louisiana's litter issues.
St. Charles Parish not only demonstrated a commitment to environmental stewardship but also celebrated local unity through the event's culmination at the West Bank Bridge Park. As they returned, community members were able to revel in their concrete contributions to the parish's beautification. Keep Louisiana Beautiful is slated to release a comprehensive report that will outline the collective impact of all registered cleanup and beautification events within the state.
Local businesses and organizations like Valero, Cajun Comfort, River Birch, and United Way of St. Charles played vital roles as generous sponsors of the Trash Bash. In addition, the event was part of the larger, statewide Love the Boot Week, supported by entities such as The Office of the Lieutenant Governor and numerous sponsors, including The Coca-Cola Company and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, as per the statements issued by the St. Charles Parish government.
