The St. Louis Park City Council has announced its support for National Bike Month this May, promoting several cycling-centric events aimed at encouraging residents to take up biking as a sustainable and healthy means of transportation. Marking a continuation of initiatives first established in 2017, the city council looks to highlight the benefits of cycling, not just as a leisure activity, but as a practical choice for commuting to work, schools, and other destinations.
As reported by the official website for St. Louis Park, on April 21, the city council took the step of passing a proclamation in support of National Bike Month. This move underscores a growing trend among urban areas to embrace eco-friendly transportation options that also support public health. In the proclamation, businesses and community groups are encouraged to host events that provide an inviting platform for new and seasoned cyclists alike.
One of the highlights of National Bike Month in St. Louis Park will be the city's involvement in two bike-related events during Bike to Work Week, which runs from May 12 through 19. There's a commuter "pit stop" scheduled for Bike to Work Day, aptly set on Friday, May 16, from 6:30 to 9 am, as per St. Louis Park, Minnesota. This "pit stop" will be stationed along the North Cedar Lake Regional Trail near Dakota Park, offering support to those who choose to bike their commute.
Adding to the week's activities, St. Louis Park sustainability staff will spearhead the third annual "Wheelie Fun" community bike ride, also taking place on Friday, May 16. The event is described as "family-friendly, all ages and abilities" and starts at 4 pm, with participants gathering at the Aquila Park playground, according to St. Louis Park, Minnesota. The 1.8-mile ride will traverse the Cedar Lake Trail and conclude at Dakota Park, offering a secure and enjoyable way for the community to experience St. Louis Park's biking infrastructure.
