Get ready for a massive convergence of cowboy hats and twang in Stillwater, as The Boys from Oklahoma concert series is soon to flood the town with country music devotees. The event, which expands over four days, will feature a lineup of artists who are the bedrock of the red dirt music scene, including Cross Canadian Ragweed and Turnpike Troubadours, who will co-headline. This homecoming is a big deal; Cross Canadian Ragweed is hitting the stage together after a 15-year hiatus, as per KOCO news.
Housed at the Boone Pickens Stadium, part of the Oklahoma State University campus, the concert venue is readying to accommodate 45,000 fans per night, detailed by Gavin Lang, OSU Associate Athletic Director of Communications, in a report by NewsOn6. Originally planned for one show only, the event blossomed into a four-night soiree because of sky-high demand. The crew has been transforming the football stadium, adding a stage and floor seating to capture the sheer volume of the audience.
According to KFOR, the concerts are projected to draw hundreds of thousands. They're all sold out, marking the occasion as one of the region's most significant musical happenings. The lineup also features The Great Divide, Jason Boland & the Stragglers, and Stoney LaRue, complementing a reunion that's making waves across the sea of country music fandom.
With hotels booked solid, and "about 500 short-term rentals," Cristy Morrison, President & CEO of Visit Stillwater, enlightened NewsOn6 with the observation, "Oh yeah. It didn't take long." Reflecting on the intense interest the concerts generated, Morrison's point couldn't be clearer that Stillwater isn't accustomed to such an invasion of music enthusiasts. More than 180,000 tickets have been sold, and the city is anticipating even greater numbers when the concert series finally kicks off.
