Last Friday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Ysleta international crossing in El Paso seized 119.3 pounds of methamphetamine. A 32-year-old Mexican man is facing charges after the drugs were found hidden in the vehicle he was driving, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The bust occurred just before 1 p.m. when a man arrived at the border in a 2000 Jeep Cherokee. A U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer decided to conduct a secondary inspection after a low-energy portal scan showed anomalies in the car's structure. During the inspection, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection dog alerted officers to the possible presence of narcotics.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Ysleta Port Director Arnie Gomez reported that officers seized 110 bundles of methamphetamine from the spare tire compartment of a Jeep. The discovery was made after a canine alerted officers, and tests confirmed the substance as methamphetamine. The driver was arrested and transferred to Homeland Security Investigations special agents to face charges for importing a controlled substance under 21 U.S. Code 952. Gomez stated, "This seizure represents the dedication of CBP employees who work hard every day to stop the flow of drugs from entering our communities."
