Four Baltimore police officers and a teenager were injured during an encounter that escalated into violence in Southeast Baltimore yesterday morning. According to FOX Baltimore, officers responded to a report from a 17-year-old who claimed he had been assaulted. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Bryant Allen, reportedly took a fighting stance when confronted by police and warned that he "was not going anywhere."
The situation intensified as Allen attempted to hastily flee and, during the pursuit, punched an officer. Efforts to subdue him using mace and a Taser were unsuccessful, as Allen continued to resist and assaulted multiple officers. WBAL-TV reported that witnesses observed the struggle, with one stating, "He was still up and moving and running around and dipping and dodging out from them and all that."
All parties involved sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to area hospitals for treatment. Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley commented on the situation, stating, "Our officers put themselves in harm's way every single day to protect this city, and it is just truly unacceptable when they are assaulted while simply doing their jobs." His statement, as detailed by CBS News Baltimore, emphasized that Allen is a repeat offender with more than 20 arrests. Commissioner Worley added, "I commend our officers for their bravery and ask that you join me in sending them well wishes for a speedy recovery."
