A spate of school burglaries across the Bay Area, in which the perpetrator targeted teachers' bank cards while they were likely distracted, has come to a close with the arrest of 34-year-old Christopher Britton of Fairfield. According to the Marin County Sheriff's Office, detectives caught wind of Britton's activities in February 2025. During a school-wide assembly at a Marin County elementary school, Britton was noticed loitering suspiciously, resulting in several teachers discovering their bank cards missing and incurring thousands of dollars in fraudulent charges.

The investigation swiftly gathered momentum and revealed a pattern of offenses across the region. Britton was found to have burglarized at least three other schools in Marin County. The investigation also exposed his ventures to Alameda County and Contra Costa County, where Britton committed nearly identical crimes. Notably, at the time of these burglaries, he was on bail for a similar series of residential burglaries in Solano County.

In a concerted effort to apprehend Britton, the Vacaville Police Department spearheaded an operation last Friday, alongside the Lafayette Police Department, Danville Police Department, Marin County Sheriff's Office, and the Dublin Police Services. Britton was located and arrested, followed by booking into the Marin County Jail. His arrest was on a no-bail Marin County warrant and a $210,000 Contra Costa County Ramey Warrant for multiple counts of burglary and fraud.
