The City of Tacoma, in partnership with Pierce Conservation District, is gearing up to celebrate Earth Day with a community-centric event that's all about getting your hands dirty for a green cause. Scheduled for April 19, the McKinley Overlook Planting Party extends an open invitation to public volunteers who wish to be part of the ecological uplift of McKinley Overlook—a charming slice of urban greenery located at East 32nd Street and East F Street, as reported by the City of Tacoma.
From 10 AM to 2 PM, volunteers are promised a day of communal labor and rewards as they plant down some 550 native plants into freshly prepped garden beds, as detailed by the City of Tacoma.. It's a day to support urban wildlife and grow a vibrant public space, all with McKinley Overlook’s scenic views. While volunteering, participants can enjoy the new walking path, meet neighbors, and watch the community spirit grow alongside the garden.
Tacoma's own Council Member Sandesh Sadalge captured the essence of the event's intent in a statement, saying, “When community comes together, great things can happen.” Sadalge emphasized how the McKinley Hill Neighborhood Planning process has shaped McKinley Overlook through a shared vision, fostering an "activated public greenspace that promotes and supports community resilience."
