To combat the persistent inequities plaguing minority women and socioeconomically disadvantaged business owners, the City of Tacoma is taking a significant step forward. Partnering with the Washington State Office of Minority and Women's Business Enterprises (OMWBE), a ‘Certification 101’ virtual workshop is on the docket for May 8, aimed at demystifying the certification process for these historically underserved entrepreneurs.
From 9 to 10 AM, attendees will be able to engage digitally with the Equity in Contracting (EIC) team and will receive an array of insights, including an overview of the EIC program, the intricacies of federal and state certification, and practical tips for filling out applications. An important aspect of the session is connecting with the City and OMWBE staff and positioning attendees for subsequent guidance.
The event's agenda, as detailed by the City of Tacoma's official site, also includes a rundown of necessary documentation accepted by the OMWBE. This information prepares participants for a follow-up workshop titled ‘Certification 201’, scheduled for May 20. More details on both events are available on the city's official events page.
The workshop is more than a mere information session; it represents a tangible opportunity to unlock new contracting opportunities by becoming a certified business. The official announcement promises guidance from seasoned experts, providing the toolkit necessary for small business owners to navigate what is often a complex and convoluted path to certification.
