The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office has taken to social media to announce an opportunity for community members to dispose of unwanted prescription medications safely. On April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., locals will be able to participate in National Take Back Day, an event focused on combating the misuse of prescription drugs.

A social media post from the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office read: "Do you have a lot of old prescription medications cluttering up your cabinets at home? Dispose of them safely and anonymously at this year’s National Take Back Day on April 26 from 10a.m. – 2p.m. #TakeBackDay."

Prescription drugs, often left forgotten in medicine cabinets, pose a risk for accidental poisonings and can be easily misappropriated for abuse. To provide residents with a secure way to rid themselves of these substances, the Sheriff's Office has designated two drop-off locations. One is the Tarrant County North Patrol at 6651 Lake Worth Blvd in Lake Worth, and another is the Tarrant County Corrections Center lobby at 100 North Lamar St in Fort Worth.
