A teenage male, 18, became the latest victim of gun violence following a shootout in the Penrose neighborhood. The incident happened on March 6, and according to a report by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, emergency calls placed officers at the scene in the 4200 block of Shreve at about 4:10 p.m. Upon arrival, they found the teenager with a serious gunshot wound to his leg, as he lay bleeding on the ground.
The young man, who was critically injured, could not offer a statement, and he was rushed to the hospital, where he remains in a critical/unstable condition. Suffering from a heavy gunshot wound, the responders called the situation tense as they tried to stabilize him for transport, capturing the urgency of the moment. Information regarding the shooting provided by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department indicated that the violence erupted between multiple unknown individuals who fled before police could apprehend anyone linked to the crime.
The ongoing investigation is piecing together the events that led to the teenager's injury. It appears that an exchange of gunfire among several unidentified persons precipitated the shooting, yet those responsible were already gone, vanishing like wraiths into the urban sprawl, before law enforcement arrived at the scene.
Authorities are reaching out to the public for assistance in solving the case. They urge anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and offer tips anonymously, if preferred. A potential cash reward awaits those whose information leads to any arrest. Tips can be submitted to a 5th district detective at 314-444-0001 or to CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477), where they will be eligible for CrimeStoppers’ rewards only if they result in an arrest. The call for witnesses to step up and assist in bringing justice to the community was stressed by the police department, determined to find those responsible for bringing more violence into the streets of Penrose.
