Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is dialing up the scrutiny on EPIC City - a development venture of the East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC). This time, he's casting the net wider, ensnaring nearby city officials by demanding they fork over records that might link them to the development currently under investigation. The cities in the crosshairs now include Plano, Richardson, Wylie, and also, not to be left out, officials from Josephine, Texas, as reported by the Attorney General's Office.
The latest move involves a public records request aimed at unearthing any communications between city leaders and the folks over at East Plano Islamic Center , EPIC City, and Community Capital Partners, LP. There's a scent of potential violations of state law in the air, and Paxton is on the hunt. According to a statement from the Attorney General's Office, these demands are a follow-up to a Civil Investigative Demand previously issued in connection to the ongoing probe.
The concern is about local officials possibly getting too close with a real estate development that's under investigation. Paxton explained it clearly: if any official is supporting or talking with the developers, his office needs to know what’s being said, as per the Attorney General's Office.
Attorney General's Office isn't taking this lightly. They intend to pore through the documents they rake in with fine-toothed comb. Every email, every memo could be a thread to tug on - and they are committed, "We will thoroughly review these documents as part of our ongoing investigation into EPIC City and work to hold accountable anyone who breaks Texas law," Paxton assured the public in the Attorney General's Office recent announcement.
