Three teenagers were left in critical condition following a shooting incident yesterday, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD). Arriving at Methodist North Hospital at 7:01 a.m., officers discovered the three 17-year-olds with gunshot wounds, FOX13 Memphis reported. All victims were transported by private vehicle, a white Infiniti sedan that was seen leaving the scene before the police arrived.
The exact location of the shooting continues to elude investigators, and the MPD's efforts to piece together the circumstances surrounding this violent outburst are ongoing, with the victims being the only tenuous link to the concealed truth of that morning's events. A black ski mask and an empty Corona beer bottle were found near where the Infiniti was parked; these items have been collected as potential evidence, WREG mentions.
One of the teenagers, upon arrival at the hospital, admitted to police that despite being a passenger in the Infiniti, he could not identify the driver, nor could he recall where he was when the shooting occurred. Another victim echoed a similar statement, noting that he, too, did not know the vehicle's driver but was accompanying the others to pick up food for the St. James Church food bank, according to WREG. He noticed several men on foot shortly before shots rang out, and the trio found themselves in dire need of medical attention.
Showing up to the hospital, all three victims appeared in critical condition, and the car carrying them sped off. The third victim, however, has opted to interact with authorities to a lesser extent, refusing to provide officers with a statement, as detailed by Action News 5.
While initial reports described the condition of the teens as critical, updates from the MPD indicate that two are now in non-critical condition, and the third is considered stable.
