Travelers at George Bush Intercontinental Airport experienced delays as a ground stop was initiated then subsequently lifted on Wednesday when thunderstorms loomed, according to ABC13. Flights were initially grounded due to the adverse weather circumstances, however, even after the stop was removed, the airport continued to report average delays of 45 minutes and growing.

The Federal Aviation Administration had reported earlier that all departures were halted until 11 a.m. despite the lifting of the ground stop travelers at the airport were not out of the woods just yet as delays continued to mount, and some passengers reported extended wait times, the Fox 26 Houston stated. In a message to its patrons, Bush Airport tweeted, "Weather conditions in the area may delay flights and some luggage,We ask for your patience as we work to run operations safely for everyone. Please monitor the status of your trip with your airline. Thank you and stay dry!"

Amid the weather turmoil, the airport officials encouraged travelers to remain updated by checking their flight status through the Bush Airport website. The inclement weather included a line of heavy rain and storms which were expected to disrupt the area well into the early afternoon, with live coverage being streamed by ABC13's dedicated weather team. Due to the day’s disruptions, the airport worked to keep passengers informed.
