Traffic on Interstate 75 in Hamilton County is set for a shake-up as utility work brings lane closures to a stretch of the highway. On Sunday, April 13, from the early morning hours of 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM, drivers should expect to encounter slowdowns due to rolling roadblocks affecting both sides of I-75 from mile marker 3 to mile marker 15, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT).
The closures are a necessary evil for the maintenance of utilities that are the lifeblood of modern infrastructure. The work is contingent on favorable weather, and should the skies prove uncooperative or other unforeseen circumstances arise, arrangements will be made to reschedule. TDOT emphasizes the importance of caution while traversing the obstructed roadway areas and advises motorists to anticipate delays.
In service of public safety and order, uniformed police officers will be onsite to assist with traffic control measures and enforcement duties. The TDOT encourages drivers to be well-informed about their travel routes before setting off, urging the use of TDOT's SmartWay Map for the latest construction-related traffic updates. The hotline 511 is also available for statewide travel information.
The advisory comes with a reminder that texting, tweeting, or talking on a phone while driving is not only dangerous, it's prohibited. This being for the safety of all road-goers, adherence to these cautions is necessary for an efficient flow of traffic during the utility work. On the legal front, the Move Over Law continues to be in effect, with non-compliance carrying the risk of a jail sentence up to 30 days and fines reaching up to $500, as a deterrent to negligent driving behaviors that endanger utility workers and emergency responders.
